Three new transparency tools—and the questions they don't settle.

Kalshi's October 6 announcement covers Brier scores, low-volume labels, and more prominent trade feeds for election markets.

On October 6, Kalshi announced three transparency features for its midterm election markets: Brier scores, low-volume labels, and more prominent activity feeds. The company presents them as ways to give market forecasts more context.

This article was prepared after the announcement and is background coverage, not a claim that these features launched today.

What the company announced

Kalshi says election markets will display Brier scores derived from historical observations, labels that highlight lower trading volume, and a more visible feed of individual trades. The announcement also discusses election-market context and settlement.

These are descriptions from the platform. Prediction Talks has not reproduced its score calculations or independently validated its broader claims about forecast performance.

Read an accuracy score with its method

A Brier score measures the squared difference between a probability and the eventual binary outcome, averaged across a defined set of forecasts. Lower is better for that evaluation. What belongs in the set, when observations are taken, and how they are weighted affect the interpretation.

A useful comparison therefore needs the evaluation window, market sample, observation timing, weighting, and a consistent benchmark. A number displayed beside one contract is not automatically comparable with a different publisher's score.

Treat volume as context

Low-volume labels can help readers notice a thinner market. They do not prove that every busy market is right or that every small market is wrong. Order-book depth, spreads, participant composition, contract wording, and observation time remain separate questions.

A visible trade feed can show what matched. It does not tell a reader every participant's reason for trading or make the last price executable for unlimited size.

Use the added detail

When inspecting an election market, read the stated score method, note volume and available quotes, and follow the exact settlement criteria. The added interface information is most useful when it prompts better questions.
